They discussed a variety of books and even Anthony Browne’s obsession with gorillas! They shared their Power of Reading texts and performed two amazing songs, there really are a class of such great performers. Their success even managed to bag the whole class a Brainiac Award this week! We are thrilled to announce the release of the tickets for this year's Year 6 production, Cinderella Rockerfella that will take place on Tuesday 10th July from 1.30pm and Wednesday 11th July from 6pm.
We have decided to offer three tickets to each performance for the Year 6s and one ticket to each performance to the Year 5s this year due to the capacity of our hall. This policy will be the same next year. Tickets cost £2 each. We had such a sporty week last week, the whole school got to take part in Interhouse Athletics on Thursday.
The pupils got to take part in 2 of 3 different events, Sprinting, long jump and vortex throwing. Last week, IVJS held their annual sports day! In the morning children competed in their houses by doing activities on the playground. The activities ranged from football, bean bag throw and basketball shootout. Well done to all the Year 5 Sports Leaders who ensured the events ran smoothly and to Harley and Jake who were incredible goalkeepers!
In the afternoon, IVJS competed in their houses in many different races in front of lots of parents! All IVJS pupils competed incredibly well showing sportsmanship and determination throughout the afternoon. Well done to the overall winners Shepperton! Following our successful assessment, The Iver Village Junior School has been awarded the green flag for another 2 years! This is what the assessor had to say about our school... "This is an exemplary Eco-School, going the extra mile to embed projects and ideas across the whole school community, so that everyone benefits from the empowerment, sense of achievement and pride all their work brings. Well done to everyone and keep up the good work." Well done to everyone for looking after our environment by recycling reusing and reducing waste! It has been a great whole school effort! This week, some of our budding scientists from Years 5 and 6 went on a Science Trip to the Big Bang Science Conference in Aston Clinton where they attended three workshops based on Sound, Fuelling Rockets and Insects. The 'Rocket Fuelling' involved designing a KNex cage to carry a 1.5 litre bottle which was then filled with air (its fuel) and racing them across the room. At the Insects workshop, they looked at the properties of insects, how bees support farmers and the pupils even held cockroaches! For the Sound workshop, they thought about pitch and volume and saw sound using a Rubens Tube filled with camping gas which was then set alight. At the end of the day, the pupils attended the STEM Fair where they got to go around all the different stalls learning a whole load of things including shapes, recycling, blood pressure, water and circuits!
