This week, IVJS competed in their second football league fixture of the year, an away match against Lent Rise School. The game was hard fought early on with both teams missing chances though in the end, IVJS took the lead with a goal from Ronnie and so they went into half time 1-0 up.
​After half time, IVJS added to their tally with two brilliant quick fire goals from Connor and Tino before Lent Rise scored a conciliation goal. Connor brilliantly wrapped the game up with a great solo effort and IVJS came through 4-1 winners! Well done to all players who played, especially to captain Tino and man of the match Connor! Thank you for all the parental support too!

​This Week In School…
Year 3 – have revised the 4 mathematical operations and in English, have been writing an informal letter from the perspective of a character from Oliver and the Seawigs.
Year 4 – have concluded their decimal work by rounding decimals to the nearest whole number and solving money and measurement problems. In English, they have had an exciting week planning and making a film trailer for a movie based on one of the poems the classes have been working on. In Humanities, Year 4 have been comparing Elizabeth I and Queen Victoria, two of our countries greatest monarchs.
Year 5 – have finished their letter to Usain Bolt - they are hoping they might get a reply answering all of the fantastic questions Year 5 had for him! In Maths, their unit of fractions has come to an end - they have learned how to add, subtract, multiply, divide and even convert decimals into fractions this half term! Year 5 have been so busy practising for Echoes as well as having great fun with girl’s football that they are going to continue their Art/DT project next half term, so please make sure you save your shoe boxes – Year 5 will be needing them! 
Year 6 – have been working hard on their Mock SATs.  As well as this, they have had a week of completing various activities in Humanities, Science and RE as they conclude their topics in these areas, ready to start their new topics next half term.

his year, IVJS will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 7th March 2019. We would like to invite you to join us in helping your child to make the most of this special occasion. We are giving the children the chance to come into school dressed as their favourite literary character for the day on the day.
World Book Day celebrates the joy and value of books and reading, especially for children. To help encourage them on their reading journey, every child has received a £1 World Book Day Book Token that will be exchanged for one of the ten special £1 World Book Day books. The children will choose their books in school and will receive their books from school on the day.
Nurseries, schools and libraries across the UK celebrate World Book Day with a huge range of events and activities. You can join us in building your child’s enthusiasm for books well beyond World Book Day by reading together regularly, joining your local library if you are not yet members and even making the most of our school’s online Bug Club.

Over the last couple of weeks in PE, all our pupils have been creating their own warm ups.  Some of the warm ups have been used in PE lessons this week.  The Year 6 children have taught the Year 3 children their warm ups.  The children have been inspiring coaches and have shown tremendous maturity, courage and imagination. ​

This week, IVJS hosted a Table Tennis tournament for our teams and teams from Farnham Common and St Mary’s. The schools competed against each other in teams, to try and become the overall winning team. In the end, Farnham Common 'A' team won the majority of their matches crowning them champions, with IVJS B team in second and IVJS A team in third. 
Well done to all children who competed, showing tremendous sportsmanship and resilience throughout. The newly appointed Year 5 sports leaders umpired the entire tournament and without them it wouldn’t have gone so smoothly! Well done, you made IVJS incredibly proud! 

​This Week In School…
Year 3 – have been learning about different types of lines and angles in Maths. In English, they have started writing a letter from the perspective of Oliver from Oliver and the Seawigs. They also really enjoyed learning about Italy and the ancient Romans for their Countries Around the World Day!
Year 4 – have been busy writing diary entries about Miss Flotsam and her adventures whilst stranded on a deserted island. In Maths, they have been working hard comparing and ordering decimals. They had the most amazing day on Wednesday when Year 4 travelled Down Under and celebrated Around the World Day with a look at the geography of Australia. They also created their own style of Aboriginal Art, danced to 'Give Me a Home Among the Gum trees' and even made damper bread and kangaroo burgers!
Year 5 – have started writing their letter to Usain Bolt! They have also kept practising their four functions with fractions and learnt about water resistance in Science!
Year 6 – have been revising their grammar and spelling skills ready for their assessment week next week.  The children have also enjoyed learning all about India during our Around the World Day when they produced some great leaflets about the country and some beautiful Mehndi hand designs.  They also enjoyed DT which involved making samosas - they were delicious!

Thank you to all of the parents who attended a lively coffee morning where we discussed whether homework was a good thing or not. Parents even tested their wits on the IVJS Times Table Mastery League.
