Dear Parents and Carers, As we approach the end of another successful academic year at Iver Village Junior School, I am delighted to share with you some of the remarkable achievements and exciting developments that have taken place within our school community. First and foremost, I am immensely proud to announce that our Year 6 pupils have once again delivered outstanding SATs results for the second consecutive year. Our pupils have not only surpassed the national average but have also demonstrated exceptional performance, with a significant proportion working above the expected standard. This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our pupils, the unwavering support of their families, and the tireless efforts of our committed staff. In addition to their academic success, our Year 6 students have showcased their creative talents through an amazing end-of-year production. It really did feel like a West End Show!
Our Year 5 pupils have also been in the spotlight recently, as they demonstrated their musical talents to parents with their incredible singing and violin playing. It was wonderful to see the progress they have made and the confidence they displayed in sharing their skills with the school community. Looking ahead to the next academic year, I would like to inform you of an important change regarding homework. We will be transitioning to an online platform called 'Century' for setting and submitting homework assignments. This innovative system will provide a more interactive and efficient way for pupils to engage with their home learning tasks. Detailed information on how to use the Century system will be sent out to all parents and carers in September. As we reflect on the achievements of this past year and look forward to the exciting opportunities that lie ahead, I am filled with pride and optimism for our school. The successes we have celebrated and the changes we are implementing are all aimed at providing the best possible educational experience for our pupils. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all our students, staff, parents, and carers for their continued support and dedication to Iver Village Junior School. Your commitment to our school's vision and values is what makes our community so special. I wish you all a wonderful summer break and look forward to welcoming everyone back for another exciting year of learning and growth in September. Miss Jill Digweed Back due to public demand!
Due to many parents’ requests, we are now hoping to hold our sports day on Monday morning. Parents will be welcome to come and watch from 9am. At present, Monday is looking like the driest part of the week. Please be mindful however that if there is rain on Sunday or early Monday morning, we may need to cancel again. Dear Parents/Guardians,
Production week is here! We are all so excited for you to see the show, the children are amazing! TUESDAY - The production tomorrow will start promptly at 1.30pm and runs for around an hour and twenty minutes. There won't be an intermission. We will message parents in the morning as there are still a few tickets available for the Tuesday performance however we are still waiting on a few remaining parents to buy their tickets before we can offer them to anyone else. WEDNESDAY - The performance starts at 5pm (so we can all make it back to watch the England game!). Again, there will be no intermission but we will be selling raffle tickets before the performance to be drawn at the end of the show. Please have your child back in school for 4.40pm to give them chance to get into costume. If your child is staying for club, they can be taken round to get changed straight from club. Kindest regards, The Y6 Team Year 3 – have been combining their learning in History and English by writing a newspaper report about Howard Carter finding Tutankhamun's tomb. They used their success criteria to write and edit their work. In Maths, they represented data in both pictograms and bar charts. In DT, they planned and designed a sandwich that they will make next week. In PSHE, they wrote a letter to their new teacher so that they could tell them all about themselves.
Year 4 – have been very imaginative in English this week! They have been writing a story about their lost toy using many features from the year 4 success criteria. In Maths, children have been learning how to convert between an analogue and digital clock. They have also been converting to a 12 hour and 24-hour clock. In Science, they explored the role of different living things in a food web – producer, predator and prey. In History, the children researched Hadrian’s wall and why it was built. Year 5 – have begun writing a narrative based on the book they have finished reading - 'The Journey'. The children impressed the teachers by their creative thoughts and success criteria that they managed to weave in to their writing. The similes, metaphors they used to describe characters and settings were fantastic! In Maths, they started to apply mathematical skills to solve conversions. The IRock concert was a highlight of the week, in which some of our Year 5 children performed in brilliantly - it was amazing to witness their remarkable performing skills. It has been a busy but fun week in Year 5! Year 6 – have spent most of the week putting the finishing touches to their production, 'Cinderella & Rockerfella', which they are due to perform next week. They have worked hard learning their lines, getting used to using their props, getting in and out of various costume changes and singing - it has been hard work, but they are almost ready! Most of the children had a day out at their new secondary schools this week and it was nice to hear how much they enjoyed this on their return. The whole year group also had a PE session together this week as a rehearsal for some of the races ready for Sports Day, ready for when the weather lets it happen! |
