Home Learning

Home learning is set to reinforce key skills in English and Mathematics each week. Creative tasks are set to  enable children to apply writing and research skills as well as to demonstrate their imagination and curiosity.

We appreciate that some weekends are busier than others; therefore we are giving you the flexibility to complete home learning tasks in your own time. Instead of checking weekly, we have decided to take home learning books in over half-term to monitor the progress.

Each year group will set 15 home learning tasks for child to complete during the half term. There are 5 tasks for both Maths and English and 5 creative tasks for your child to choose from.

In Lower School your child is expected to complete a total of 5/6 tasks over each half term.
In Upper School your child is expected to complete a total of 10 tasks over each half term.

Please ensure you return your home learning book to school in the last week of half term.

Times Tables

Knowing the times tables (and their associated division facts) supports mathematical learning and understanding and those children who have a strong grasp of them tend to be more self-assured when learning new concepts. Primary-school children are expected to know all their times tables up to 12x12. Under the current National Curriculum, children are supposed to know their times tables by the end of Year 4 and children will be formally tested using an on-screen check (on a computer or a tablet), where they will have to answer multiplication questions against the clock.  Please see the information about the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) by clicking here.

You can practice using our resource Cracking Times Tables. Please click here to learn more.
