This Week In School…
Year 3 – have continued to build their knowledge of time focusing on calculating different durations of time and converting minutes into seconds. In English, they have been working hard on developing their poetry skills by creating their own poem using the film 'Toy Story' as inspiration. They have produced some fantastic poems using their creative writing skills! Year 3 also finished their Science topic of rocks this week by making their very own fossils to demonstrate the process of fossilation. Well done Year 3 for another productive week, we hope you enjoy your half term break!
Year 4 – have been writing a diary entry imagining that they are Tranio, experiencing Mount Vesuvius erupting. In Maths, the children have been interpreting charts. In Geography, they have been learning about the climate zone in Ghana and comparing it to Iver. They have been able to apply their learning in maths to draw a line graph to show the temperature and rainfall each month in Ghana and Iver. In Science, children explored the threats to their local environment and identified different causes of damages to air quality in the local area. Year 4 have been busy with art this week, exploring different printmaking techniques, they look amazing!
Year 5 – have written a formal letter to Usain Bolt and they managed to include a lot of success criteria and a variety of questions to Mr. Bolt - the teachers were really impressed! In Maths, the children learnt about symmetry and reflections on vertical and horizontal mirror lines and worked really hard to solve some challenging problems. They also produced a fantastic poster on anger in Guided reading and managed to include lots of information on coping strategies and ways to support others. In science, they learnt about metamorphoses; their contributions and engagement in this lesson was remarkable! Finally, the children applied their creativity to produce some magnificent artworks using henna, which they thoroughly enjoyed!
Year 6 – have welcomed employees from Heathrow Airport and took part in the Heathrow Young Explorers session.  They thoroughly enjoyed coming up with a design idea for a transport solution that will make travel throughout the airport even more sustainable.  They were extremely creative and came up with some interesting transport suggestions!  In Humanities, the children researched inventions invented by the Victorians and created a PowerPoint to present their findings.  In Science, Year 6 have delved into the functions of the heart, lungs and blood vessels.  We were also extremely impressed with the children’s acting abilities following their amazing auditions for the Year 6 end of year production ‘Cinderella & Rockerfella’. This made our casting selection extremely difficult.

Outdoor Adventure Days 2024

21/5/2024

Dear Parent/Guardian,

On Monday 10th June (for Years 3 and 4) and Tuesday 11th June (for Year 5 and 6), our pupils will be taking part in an outdoor adventure day at school. Each day will start promptly at 9:00 am and so pupils will need to be in school on time to ensure they do not miss out on any activities. Pupils will need to wear their PE kit and trainers on this day. Due to the activities they will be taking part in, pupils will need to wear jogging bottoms or leggings rather than shorts.
Depending on the weather pupils will also need:
  • Waterproof coat
  • Sun hat
  • Sun cream
The day will be run by qualified instructors from the Outdoor Education Company, who will provide all the necessary safety equipment for the activities. Pupils will be accompanied by their teachers and other familiar school staff during all activities.

Throughout the day all pupils will have opportunity to take part in the following activities.
  • Mini Golf
  • Aeroball
  • Skateboarding
  • Team building
Pupils will be encouraged to take part in all the activities, but will not be pushed further than they are comfortable with. We hope that this will be an exciting opportunity for pupils to experience new activities and develop resilience and team work skills.

There is no cost to parents for this activity day however should yo wish to donate, you can do so via the shop tab on the School Money Tab.

If you have any questions or worries, please do not hesitate to ask your child’s class teacher.
Many thanks,

Miss Digweed

Year 5 Science and PSHE 2024

21/5/2024

Dear Parents/Guardians,

RE: Year 5 Science and PSHE Lessons – Summer term 2.

Over Summer term 2 our Science lessons are based on the topic ‘Animals and humans’. Throughout this topic, children learn about the changes that human beings experience as they develop to old age. Children will learn about the life cycle of a human being. They will investigate the development of babies and compare the gestation period of humans and other animals. They will learn about the changes experienced during puberty and why these occur.

The PSHE curriculum for Summer term 2 focuses on the topic ‘changing me’. During this topic, children will learn about their own self-image and how their body image fits into that. They will also learn about how a girls / boys body changes during puberty and understand the importance of looking after yourself physically and emotionally.

Below shows the outline of the lessons that will be covered and the vocabulary used.

This Week In School…
Year 3 – have been using their book, 'The boy at the back of the class', as inspiration to write their own informal letter to a refugee child. They have used informal language, paragraphs and present perfect tense to complete their letters. In Maths, they have used their knowledge to time to convert different times from analogue to digital formats as well as using am and pm. In Science, they have been investigating whether different rocks are permeable or impermeable as well as testing if they are hard or soft. They finished their week of science by looking at the rock cycle and how rocks transform from sedimentary to metamorphic to magma to igneous back to sedimentary. They will continue their study of rocks next week as well as diving further into time.
Year 4 – have been writing amazing newspaper reports about the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. They have been very interested to learn about the events leading up to the eruption and the aftermath of the eruption. In Maths, they have been comparing angles to right angles and naming obtuse or acute angles. They have also been learning the properties of triangles and the different names of triangles. In Science, they have been exploring different human led causes that damage habitats and how we can protect habitats. In History, Year 4 investigated the Roman invasion of Britain and explored the countries included.
Year 5 – have begun planning a formal letter to Usain Bolt! They have come up with various questions to ask him and have included lots of Year 5 and 6 spelling words in their planning. In Maths, the children have been learning all about coordinates. Their enthusiasm in these lessons have been remarkable! The children have also read a few more chapters of their class book 'Running on Empty' - they shared interesting insights about AJ's emotions. In PSHE, the children also discussed the responsibilities that come with using electronic devices and the potential risks they might impose on our lives. In Science, the children gathered further information about Jane Goodall which will be used to write a diary entry about her. The highlight of the week was the trip to Science Oxford - the children behaved really sensibly and their interaction and engagement was fantastic to see!
Year 6 – have worked really hard during their SATs and we are extremely proud of each and every single one of them. They have started each day really positively, enjoying breakfast together and demonstrating a resilient and perseverant attitude towards the tests throughout the week.  Away from SATS, the children have continued to learn about the Victorians in Humanities and have specifically been looking at the changes that occurred during Queen Victoria’s reign.  They have also started a new topic in Science: Animals including humans.  This week they enjoyed learning all about the human respiratory system.
