This Week In School…
Year 3 – have been very learning about time in Maths this week. They have learnt about Roman numerals and then moved onto exploring analogue clocks to tell the time to 5-minute intervals. In English, they have completed their diary entries based around 'The boy at the back of the class'. In Art, they have created their final pieces of work around the theme of 'Storytelling through art'. They have created some very imaginative and colourful pieces which they hope to share with parents towards the end of the year. In French, they have been learning to order their favourite flavours of ice-cream, using full sentences. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they talk to each other in French. Year 4 – have been writing a newspaper report about the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. In Maths, children have been learning time, months of the year and days. In Geography, children were exploring mountain ranges in Ghana and used their maths skills to create a bar chart of different mountain ranges. In DT, children were practising their cutting, sticking and assembling skills to use a net to make a 3D shape. In Science, children have been explaining how natural causes like hurricanes and earthquakes can cause damage to a habitat. Year 5 – have written a few stanzas of their poem about a race - it was wonderful to see their creativity seeping in to their poems in forms of poetic devices! The children learnt about polygons and 3D shapes in Maths and have deepened their understanding of shapes. In Humanities, children exhibited their understanding of volcanoes by labelling a diagram of a volcano. In Science, the children also produced some brilliant information texts about mammals to showcase their understanding of reproduction in mammals. They also enthusiastically contributed to the PSHE lessons where we discussed the benefits and risks of online gaming. The children actively participated in their PE lessons - their resilience and perseverance in these lessons have been amazing! It was a fun week in Year 5! Year 6 – have been working really hard in the final push before they sit their SATs next week. They have been revising aspects of spelling, grammar, reading and maths. In English, the children have been continuing to write their narratives based on 'The Lighthouse' where they are impressing us with their great descriptive writing. We have continued with our new humanities topic, history - The Victorians; the children have been looking at what it was like to be a child at school during the Victorian era and have been comparing school then with school today.
