This Week In School…
Year 3 – have continued to build their knowledge of money. They have focused on adding and subtracting different amounts and giving correct change. In English, they have been working hard on their Lighthouse narratives, developing their use of a range of success criteria including fronted adverbials, apostrophes and speech. Their creative skills have flourished in Art whilst exploring story telling through Aboriginal Dot Paintings and Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs. They are all looking forward to designing their final pieces ready for their upcoming Art Exhibition! Year 4 – have been writing yummy recipes about how to make a pizza. In Maths, year 4 have been learning about money, converting pounds and pence, comparing amounts and problem solving. In History, they started learning about the Roman army, identifying the parts of the required uniform and exploring the different parts of the Roman Army. In Science, children were explaining the impact of damage to a habitat of living things. In DT, the children investigated different forms of packaging and discovered that some packaging is made from nets. Year 5 – have published their information texts on rainforests and their presentation was remarkable! Also, in English the Year 5 children delved into the world of poetry and explored types of poetry. In Maths, they have been learning all about angles; their enthusiasm in these lessons has been outstanding! The children have learnt further about Asia: its mountains and volcanoes. They have learnt how mountains are formed and about the 'Ring of fire'. In Science, the children have been examining potatoes closely in order to understand more about asexual reproduction in plants. They also learnt all about the Muslim creation story and used their skills to compare and contrast it with the Christian creation story. The children have been so sensible, diligent and engaging this week and the Year 5 teachers could not be prouder of them! Year 6 – have continued writing their narrative re-telling the story of 'The Lighthouse'. They have used some great descriptive vocabulary for the setting and character description. In Maths, the children have been learning about angles and have enjoyed solving problems involving finding missing angles in triangles, quadrilaterals and polygons. In Humanities, they have begun the topic about Victorians and they have completed a timeline to show where the Victorians fit in with different historical groups. In PSHE, Year 6 have been learning about different aspects of mental health and have had some great discussions around the topic. Comments are closed.
