This week, some of our budding scientists from Years 5 and 6 went on a Science Trip to the Big Bang Science Conference in Aston Clinton where they attended three workshops based on Sound, Fuelling Rockets and Insects. The 'Rocket Fuelling' involved designing a KNex cage to carry a 1.5 litre bottle which was then filled with air (its fuel) and racing them across the room. At the Insects workshop, they looked at the properties of insects, how bees support farmers and the pupils even held cockroaches! For the Sound workshop, they thought about pitch and volume and saw sound using a Rubens Tube filled with camping gas which was then set alight. At the end of the day, the pupils attended the STEM Fair where they got to go around all the different stalls learning a whole load of things including shapes, recycling, blood pressure, water and circuits!
