This Week In School… Year 3 – have been writing non-fiction texts in English this week while in Maths, they have been looking at time and how to read analogue clocks. If you have any analogue clocks at home, please help our Year 3s keep practising! Year 4 – have begun to plan their biography of Edward Tulane (the most extraordinary rabbit) and were lucky enough to interview him in person! They asked him lots of questions ready for when they start writing our biography next week. In maths, we have continued to investigate time. This week we have moved onto converting between days, weeks, months and years. We have also used our knowledge of time to answer a variety of word problems. In humanities, we have travelled back into the past in our time machine and landed in 30 BCE! We meet Mavis from the Catuvellauni tribe and Maximus from the Roman Empire. We found out all sort of interesting things like the fact that Celtics invented soap and that Romans had one of the best armies in the ancient world. We then compared the life of a rich Roman and a poor Roman. Year 5 – have been busy again this week! For English, they have completed writing, edited and publishing an email from one of the characters from the 'Cosmic' story. They have really focused their attention on the year 5 success criteria. They were all able to identify the features they needed to add in when editing their work. In Maths, they have looked at multiplying and dividing decimal numbers and will move on to looking at angles next week. They have continued with their Anglo Saxons topic lessons and have looked at Viking life this week. Year 6 – have either been here at IVJS or at PGL. The PGL group have been enjoying their residential week with PGL and have been experiencing lots of exciting, new activities outdoors. However, those children who did not go on the residential trip have also had a very enjoyable week and have taken part in a range of activities in school, including a Technology Challenge (where they had to work in teams to create - and model - a fashion outfit using just three black sacks, a pencil, a ruler, a pair of scissors and 1.5m sticky tape); decorating a pillow case using fabric paints; creating a mood board (collage) linked to a decade of their choice (from 1950s through to 1990s); building a range of models out of Lego during some construction afternoons; making a Nature Art Bug; playing rounders; making cards; origami and painting stones. It has been a very busy, but pleasurable, week. Comments are closed.
