This Week In School…
Year 3 – have had an absolutely incredible time at Cuffley Camp. It really brought out the adventurous side and smiles filled their faces, which was lovely to see. In English, they recapped what present perfect tense was and started to get into the mind of a Victorian working child so that next week they can create some fantastic diary entries. They have used some brilliant descriptive language that they will add to their diary entries to make them even better. In Maths, they have consolidated their knowledge of multiplication and division and have reminded themselves how to use bus stop and expanded multiplication. In Science, they have been discussing the differences between herbivores, carnivores and omnivores and have been singing a rather catchy song to help them remember. In PSHE, they have been working together as a team to create a garden that needs to be accessible to everyone. Year 3 have also really enjoyed going into the hall for lunchtime and have been able to have some really interesting conversations. Year 4 – have been working hard on writing a biography for the main character in their class book, Varjak Paw. They have planned, written and edited their informative biographies. In Maths, they have been revisiting their times table and multiplication knowledge by working on a series of different tasks throughout the week. This week, they have been busy writing scripts for their very own scientific presentation about digestion. Everyone was very impressed with how well they were presented and how informative they were. Well done! Year 5 – had a great day at Cuffley Camp on Wednesday. Not even the weather dampened their spirits! Everybody thoroughly enjoyed all the activities and many of the children really challenged themselves. Some children did a brilliant job at trying things that were way out of their comfort zones and felt great afterwards. It was lovely to see so many smiling faces at the end of the day. They have also continued to answer a variety of reasoning questions relating to subtracting fractions during Maths lessons. They planned and started to draft a narrative based on The Girl and the Fox in English. Year 5 worked in pairs to plan, then wrote their opening two paragraphs, trying to include the Year 5 language features including relative clauses, speech, descriptive language and modal verbs. Year 6 – have finished publishing their endings to Rooftoppers and have started their new piece of writing - a fantasy narrative based on a short film called 'Dragonslayer'. In Maths, the children have been using their addition and multiplication skills to work out the perimeter and area of shapes. Year 6 had a great day out at Cuffley Camp on Thursday; the children were fantastic and everyone was so proud of them. Not only did they represent the school brilliantly, but they also showed great team work, perseverance, resilience and stamina as they took part in the various activities - including the daunting Gladiator Wall, where the children showed their amazing climbing skills.
