OFSTED Report - January 2020

Re: Monitoring visit from OFSTED
In January we had ‘the call’ to say that we were to have our monitoring visit from OFSTED.  As part of the cycle of inspection, we knew that 2019-2020 was the ‘OFSTED year’ as our previous inspection had been in June 2016.
The inspection report is now available and will be published on the OFSTED website from today (Monday 2nd March) and it is all incredibly positive.  I feel enormously proud to be the Headteacher of IVJS and be able to work in such a friendly and supportive school.  It is very pleasing to read such positive things about our school and I would like to thank everyone in our school community for all their support, especially our children who spoke with such pride about our school.  The inspector was very impressed with how keen our children were to speak to him!
The whole monitoring visit was a very positive experience for the school and highlighted the nurturing and caring ethos that the school has.  I have listed the key points from the report below.

• IVJS is friendly, nurturing and supportive, meaning pupils thrive
• Leaders have high expectations of pupils’ learning and behaviour; Leaders, staff and governors have high aspirations for pupils
• Pupils are very keen to learn because teachers make learning interesting and fun
• Pupils speak highly of the school and are proud to attend
• Pupils behave well in their lessons and around the school
• Parents and carers are hugely supportive of the school
• Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are supported well
• Pupils are prepared well for their secondary education. This is because pupils achieve above national expectations in reading, writing and mathematics.
• The headteacher provides strong leadership, supported well by the deputy headteacher
• School leaders take great care and are passionate about providing the very best for all pupils
• Governors know the school well. They challenge and support the senior leadership team effectively
• There is a well-established safeguarding culture that permeates across the school.

We have one area for development – to continue to develop the wider curriculum and to develop children’s subject vocabulary.  This will be something we will be continuing to work on to ensure that our high standards are maintained across the curriculum.
