Year 3 – have put so much effort into their amazing fairy tales this week and they are sounding super! They have also been braving the cold to learn how to measure objects around the school. During Humanities, they have been learning to create time lines about the Prehistoric Age. Year 4 – have been looking at the myth Theseus and the Minotaur with the children rewriting the myth with an alternate ending. In Maths, they have been looking at different strategies such as repeated subtraction and long division and solving worded problems with what they have learnt. Year 5 – have been fine tuning and editing their Sci-Fi stories this week, everyone is so proud of the fantastic writing coming from Year 5! In Humanities, they have started their new topic studying the local village of Iver. Year 6 – have been busy as always! Sunflower have been preparing for their Remembrance assembly this week (which was outstanding). Foxglove have been working on their writing; they’ll come home with a copy of their ‘Piano’ story to show everyone how hard they have worked. Click here for this week's full bulletin. This week's brainiac awards have been handed out for excellent story writing skills, exemplary behaviour and even setting a good example to others. Great work everyone!
Saturday 19th November is our Christmas Fayre! We’d like some wonderful singers to join together and end the day with a performance of some Christmas songs. All children are invited to perform.
The fayre is from 12pm until 3pm and will take place in the school hall. At 2.20pm we will begin tidying up so that at 2.30pm we may end the Fayre with the songs. It’ll be a magical end to a wonderful event. Click here to view the full letter. This week in school…
Year 3 – have started back with a bang! During English, they have been changing well-loved fairy tales to include some imaginative twists and so far, they are sounding epic! They have also been growing their brains in Maths by learning algebra and how to balance equations. They have started a new topic in Science about forces. Year 4 – have been learning about Myths and Legends, especially Pandora’s Box in English. They will be re writing the myth with an alternative ending. Year 5 – have started writing their own science fiction stories, they love the short film clip they watched and can’t wait to get going! In Maths, they have been learning squared and cubed numbers. Finally, in science, they have done an experiment to find out what is the best insulator. Year 6 – have had another great week in Year 6! They have started a new unit in English focusing on the life of a WWI veteran with powerful and thought provoking writing! They have had an inspirational drummer show them the A to Z of drumming and even had an incredible coding workshop provided by the people at Heathrow. Apparently, they were the best group the coders have ever had! Click here for the week's bulletin. This week's Brainiac Awards have been handed out for model behaviour, dedication to learning and even amazing contributions in Science! Great work guys.
This week has been drumming madness! The fantastic drummer, Marc Danecker, from MD DrumLab (www.mddrumlab.co.uk), visited us on Tuesday and ever since, the rhythmic beats have been heard all around the school grounds.
Drummer Marc has even agreed to provide one to one drumming lessons here at IVJS! For anyone who would like to sign up, contact the school reception. Today, we have even had a super band of drummers formed from pupils handpicked by Mr Clifford for their incredible rhythm and timing who played out the school day. Great big thanks to our incredible super group, Lily M, Clai, Ronnell, Scarlett, Nicole, Pavleen, Gracie, Jesse, Kobi, Jayden, Josh, Ella, Zinnia, Naj and Miss Manni. What a fantastic noise! This half term, Year 5 will be taught hockey in P.E. Children will need to wear shin pads. These can be purchased from Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Sports Direct or any other sports shop.
