This Week In School…
Year 3 – have had an amazing start to their time at IVJS. They have been learning about place value in Maths and using different forms of punctuation in English. In Geography, they have been using their map skills to learn about the physical and human geographical features in Iver. All of the children have impressed us with their positive attitude to learning and we look forward to a great year ahead! Year 4 – have had a brilliant start to the school year. They have settled into their new Maths and English groups seamlessly, have worked hard on recapping key punctuation rules and have been practising using coordinating and subordinating conjunctions. In Maths, they have started their place value topic by partitioning numbers up to 1000 and worked hard on a Year 4 arithmetic paper. They discussed different religious communities in RE. In Art, they have started to explore the next step to understanding the art foundations by mark making to explore line, creating images that show warm and cool colours and read a story about the colour monster and how different colours emote different feelings. In Geography, they have explored Africa and labelled the different countries of Africa. Miss Rowe, Miss Ramsay and Mrs Punny are very proud of how hard they have worked during their first week back of Year 4. Year 5 – have had a fantastic start to term this week. In Maths, the children have been busy learning all about Roman Numerals and numbers up to 10,000. They have also begun exploring China, particularly focusing on China’s location and landscape – they have been incredible in sharing their knowledge! In English, they have been recapping some grammatical features in order for them to be ready to use them next week, when they start writing their first piece of writing. Some features they have revisited are expanded noun phrases and commas for lists. The children have written some scintillating sentences about jaguars and manatees using their skills. Year 6 – have settled in to the new school year and are already working hard. They have been working on creating effective settings and character descriptions in English as they start to write their own fantasy story about dragons based on a film clip entitled 'The Dragon Slayer'. In Maths, the children are learning about reading and writing numbers up to 10,000,000 and in Humanities they are studying South America and have already found out lots of interesting facts. They have started reading their class book, Floodlands by Marcus Sedgwick, which the children seem to be enjoying. Comments are closed.
