Weekly Bulletin - 5th May 2023

​This Week In School…
Year 3 – have been learning about money in Maths this week. They have learnt how to find totals of amounts and convert pence to pounds. In English they have been writing a story about 'The Wishgranter'. They have been using their imaginations to create their own narratives with a focus on using the correct tense. In Art, they have been exploring Aboriginal Art and creating their own paintings using the dot painting technique. The pupils have also been learning about Hieroglyphics and have used this form of Egyptian art to write their own name. During PSHE, Year 3 have shown their awareness of how to be a global citizen and gave some very thoughtful ideas showing their consideration for others.
Year 4 – have been busy writing a recipe in English. They have been designing and writing a pizza recipe for Miss Rowe to test out this weekend. In Maths they have been working hard on partitioning decimal numbers, comparing them and ordering them. In Science this week, they have explored how plants adapt to their surroundings and designed their own rainforest plant. They have also explored mountains and hills in Ghana as part of their humanities study of the country. Year 4 have also been working really hard on their times tables and practising lots. They are getting really speedy at answering their TTML grids!
Year 5 – have continued their learning on angles, by challenging themselves to use a protractor for the first time. The children measured their own angles and are also beginning to learn how to draw their own angles accurately. In English, they have completed their learning on the rainforest and added the finishing touches to their rainforest information text. Year 5 have impressed us with their descriptions of the rainforest’s layers and their understanding of why they are important to the planet. During the afternoons this week, they have been busy learning about how different mountains are formed and the particular mountains that are located in Asia. They have also begun their new science topic, in which Year 5 have written some excellent explanations for how flowers are pollinated and reproduce.
Year 6 – have been working really hard this week in their final run-up to SATs; they have been revising in reading, grammar and maths.  We wish them all the very best of luck next week and are confident the children will demonstrate just how much they have learnt and just how much progress they have made since joining IVJS.  As well as revision, the children have continued to learn about the Victorians in humanities and have prepared some great presentations on inventions of the Victorian era. They have also found out about the differences in the lives of poor Victorian children compared to rich Victorian children.
