This Week In School…
Year 3 – have been recapping addition and subtraction, including solving word problems in Maths, before they move onto multiplication next week. In English, they have been planning and writing a narrative based on a video clip called 'The marshmallow'. They have focused on writing an opening, a problem and a resolution. In Humanities, they have begun their History topic learning about Prehistoric Britain. They have been learning about placing events in chronological order and the use of historical sources to learn about the past. In RE, they have been reflecting on celebrations and why they are important part of different religions. Year 3 have settled back into school really well after the half term break and have been working incredibly hard. Well done! Year 4 – have had a busy first week back at school. They started their new half term by taking part in a Wow Day to excite them about their new theme for English this term. They took part in Iceland day and got to spend the whole day immersing themselves in all things Icelandic. They tested their maths skills budgeting for their trip, took part in a Viking work out session, learnt about different things you can do in Iceland, tried different Icelandic foods, and enjoyed a warm hot chocolate under the Northern Lights. During the rest of their week, they have started writing a Norse Myth in English, have started learning about area in Maths and begun their sound topic in Science. They have learnt about vibrations, took part in a sound survey around school and learnt about how the ear works. Year 5 – have had a very exciting first week of the term. In Maths, they explored square and cube numbers in addition to practicing multiplication of numbers by 10, 100 and 1,000. They have learnt how to use direct speech and relative clauses in their writing and have written a diary entry including these elements. Continuing to learn more about materials in Science, they have carried out an experiment to observe which materials are soluble and insoluble in water. Year 5 have had a memorable and exciting Viking day where they were all Vikings for the day, making a Longship and going on a treasure (plastic of course!) hunt as Vikings did! Check out next week’s newsletter for more about Viking Day. What an exciting week in Year 5! Year 6 – have begun writing a detailed recount of their exciting activities before half-term. In Maths, they have been focussing on division and have solved problems using the written method for short division and long division. Year 6 have also enjoyed a week of Art and have been learning all about the key elements of art, particularly line and colour. Comments are closed.
