This Week In School…
Year 3 – have been working on their poetic skills by devising a poem based on their book 'The Pebble in My Pocket: A History of the Earth.' The have incorporated adverbs, metaphors and similes to help make their poem more effective. In Maths, they have completed their topic of fractions for the time being. This week they used their times table knowledge to help them to work out unit and non-unit fractions of a number. They also used their knowledge of fractions to answer reasoning problems. In Humanities, they have explored Europe. They have investigated different areas in the Alps, used grid references to help locate countries and have researched natural disasters. In P.S.H.E, they have developed their conflict resolution skills, by trying to come to win-win situations. For their art learning, they have started to look at how art can be used to tell a story. This week they compared and contrasted the Bayeux Tapestry with cave painting.
Year 4 – have moved on to looking at textures in Art, using the iPads to take photographs of leaves, benches and other objects in the playground. In Maths, they have continued looking at tenths and hundredths and will be moving on to looking at time and money in the next few weeks. In English, they have finished their wonderful fact files about Italy and are now working on writing their own recipes for how to make pizza!
Year 5 – have continued to work hard on their writing this week, writing excellent paragraphs to describe the 4 busy layers of the rainforest and the animals that live within them. In Maths, they have continued to practise interpreting tables and graphs. The children answered some tricky questions based on different bus and train timetables, which tested their knowledge of time. They have also begun their learning on angles and measurement. In Humanities, Year 5 have explored the different types of weather across Asia, labelling them neatly onto their own maps of the continent. They have also discussed monsoon seasons and their impact on the continent.
Year 6 – have been working hard in the run-up to SATs.  The children have been taking part in revision grammar lessons where they have continued to do a range of activities to help them consolidate their understanding of specific grammar terms and rules.  In Maths, they have been learning about angles and have been solving problems involving finding missing angles in triangles.  The children have continued to learn about the Victorians in Humanities and have specifically been looking at the changes that occurred during Queen Victoria's reign and at the inventions from the era.  In PSHE, they have been learning about different aspects of mental health and have had some great discussions around the topic.
