This Week In School…
Year 3 – have been writing inspired by their experiences in the Now Press Play that they took part in last Friday. They are writing a newspaper article about the heroic Stone Age child and all the amazing rescues that they performed during the day (including battling wolves, rescuing a child from a cave-in and even saving their own dad). In Maths, Year 3 have begun to look at 2-D shapes and their properties. They have been learning about new vocabulary that they can use to describe the lines of a shape including parallel, vertical, horizontal, diagonal, adjacent and perpendicular. In Science, Year 3 have been learning about Mary Anning and the great strides that she made for both history and science through her discoveries in palaeontology. They produced a cross-curricular piece of work by writing a biography about her life. For PSHE, they have started the first of two lessons thinking about being a good global citizen. The first lesson looked where their food comes from and how it is made. The next will continue to develop their knowledge of global relationships. Year 4 – have completed their stories about a missing toy in English. They have really enjoyed getting to share some of their stories with Year 3. In Science, they have explored both natural and human damages to habitats. In PE, they have enjoyed playing cricket and practising for next month's Sports Day! Year 4 have continued to impress with their dedication to practising their times tables and have been using every free moment to do so! Some are now so quick they are beating the teachers at answering! In Music they continue to love learning to play the glockenspiels and learning to sing and sign to Pink's Cover Me in Sunshine. Year 5 – have been writing a character description about the tardigrade. The children are very intrigued by the tiny creatures. They have focused their attention on pronouns, apostrophes for possession and conjunctions. They have moved on to measuring and drawing angles in Maths this week. They are becoming more familiar with the types of angles, the parts of the protractor and how to measure, placing the protractor on an angle correctly. They have then extended their knowledge, using reasoning skills to calculate a larger missing angle using an angle they know. In Topic this week, Year 5 have continued with their work comparing Iver and China. They have identified the physical features, settlement and trade in the both places. Year 6 – have been relieved to have a week without exams! Following on from SATs last week, the children in Year 6 have this week been focusing on further developing their writing skills. They have worked really hard and have produced an interesting non-chronological report about wolves; plus they have re-told the story of the 3 Little Pigs, but this time from the wolf's point of view. It has been great reading these stories and we have enjoyed reading some of the twists! In Computing, the children have started a new topic this week - Networks. This week they found out about the difference between the internet and the world wide web. In Humanities, they are continuing to look at the Maya civilisation and have found out about everyday life for the Maya people. They have also had auditions for this year's production - Bugsy - and we were very impressed with some of the drama and singing! Comments are closed.
