PSHE & RSE
PSHE/RSE Subject Intent Statement for Iver Village Junior School
At Iver Village Junior School, our PSHE/RSE curriculum is fundamental in nurturing our pupils to develop spiritually, morally, socially, and culturally. Through comprehensive PSHE/RSE education, students will gain self-confidence, self-responsibility, and a deep understanding of British Values. They will learn to value themselves and others, appreciate diversity, and actively contribute to both the school and local community. Our aim is to empower students to make informed choices, grow emotionally, and understand the importance of a safe and healthy lifestyle.
Our PSHE/RSE curriculum aligns seamlessly with the ethos of Believe, Achieve, Succeed together. By embracing these values, students are encouraged to recognise their worth, collaborate effectively, question ideologies, and take ownership of their learning journey.
Building upon foundational knowledge, our PSHE/RSE curriculum in key stage 2 lays the groundwork for future personal, social, health, and economic development. Through a structured progression, students develop essential life skills and strategies to navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
Our PSHE/RSE curriculum is integrated cohesively within the broader curriculum, fostering interdisciplinary connections and enriching pupils' learning experiences. By exploring real-world issues in a safe environment, pupils will be equipped to engage critically with societal challenges.
Emphasis is placed on developing critical skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration through our PSHE/RSE curriculum. These competencies empower pupils to make informed decisions and navigate complexities in their personal and social lives.
Our PSHE/RSE curriculum equips pupils with essential skills, knowledge, and values that prepare them to navigate the complexities of the modern world with confidence and resilience. By fostering personal development and social awareness, we empower pupils to become active, responsible citizens who positively contribute to society.
By embedding these principles within our PSHE/RSE curriculum, we aim to inspire a generation of students who are equipped to believe, achieve, and succeed together, both within and beyond the school environment.
At the end of each topic, pupils will complete a subject knowledge snapshot quiz based on the year group's assessment criteria. This will help teachers to identify areas of learning that are secure and areas of development for future teaching.

PSHE Overview
RSE ( Relationships and Health Education)
All primary schools are required by the government to teach Relationships and Health Education.
Relationships Education is designed to help children to have positive and safe relationships with family, friends and online.
Health Education will help children to make good decisions about their health and wellbeing and enable them to know how to seek support if any health issues arise for themselves or others.
If you would like more information about statutory Relationships and Health Education, please click below to read the government guide “Understanding Relationships and Health Education in your child’s primary school: a guide for parents”.
At Iver Village Junior School, we have been delivering Relationships and Health Education within our Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) curriculum for many years. We have reviewed our PSHE curriculum to make sure that our lessons meet the requirements that the government has set out for the content of Relationships and Health Education.
We have also updated our Relationships and Sex Education policy to reflect the new statutory status for Relationships Education.
