Religious Education Curriculum Intent Statement for Iver Village Junior School
At Iver Village Junior School, Religious Education (RE) holds a significant place in our curriculum, providing children with opportunities to delve deeper into the meanings of their experiences and understanding how these shape their purpose in life. Through exploring and responding to the beliefs and experiences of others, children develop a curiosity that leads to questioning, critical thinking, and a desire to learn about diverse faiths and cultures.
Our RE curriculum is aligned with the school's ethos of "Believe, Achieve, Succeed together," promoting spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development. We aim to prepare students for present and future opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences, fostering a sense of unity and respect for all.
The RE curriculum at Iver Village Junior School builds upon students' prior knowledge and lays the foundation for future learning. Through a structured approach across key stage 2, pupils progress in their understanding of different religions, worldviews, and ethical concepts, preparing them for deeper explorations in later stages of education.
Our RE curriculum integrates seamlessly with the broader curriculum, encouraging interdisciplinary connections and promoting a holistic understanding of the world. By exploring the intersections between RE and other subjects, students develop a well-rounded perspective that enhances their overall learning experience.
Through RE, pupils develop critical skills such as analytical thinking, problem-solving, empathy, and collaboration. These skills are essential for navigating complex issues, understanding different perspectives, and engaging meaningfully with the world around them.
The long-term benefits of our RE curriculum extend beyond the classroom, equipping pupils with essential skills, knowledge, and values that prepare them for future challenges. By nurturing a deep understanding of diverse beliefs and cultures, RE empowers pupils to become informed, empathetic, and respectful global citizens.
Parents and carers can choose to withdraw their child from any and all religious education (RE) lessons in school. We would ask that your are “aware of the RE syllabus and that it is relevance to all pupils and respects their own personal beliefs”.
At the end of each topic, pupils will complete a subject knowledge snapshot quiz based on the year group's assessment criteria. This will help teachers to identify areas of learning that are secure and areas of development for future teaching.
