PE Curriculum Intent Statement for Iver Village Junior School

At Iver Village Junior School, we believe that Physical Education (PE) is an integral part of our curriculum, offering extensive and inclusive learning opportunities for all children. Our vision for PE is to develop skills that are not only crucial during childhood but also essential throughout life.
PE at Iver Village Junior School is vital for nurturing physical, mental, and social development. Through Health and Fitness activities, children learn to control their bodies, understand their limits, and embrace the importance of leading an active lifestyle. We aim to equip our students with the necessary skills to excel in a wide range of sports and instill values of good sportsmanship and teamwork.
Our PE curriculum resonates with the school's strapline, "Believe, Achieve, Succeed together," by fostering a collaborative environment where children support each other's growth and celebrate achievements both individually and as a team.
Our PE curriculum ensures a seamless progression in developing physical competence, confidence, and expertise. Pupils understand the principles of effective performance and apply them across various sports and physical activities, setting the stage for a healthy and active lifestyle.
PE at Iver Village Junior School enhances the broader curriculum by promoting interdisciplinary connections. Through activities that encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration, students develop transferable skills that benefit their overall academic and personal growth.
In PE, students not only enhance their physical abilities but also develop critical skills such as teamwork, resilience, communication, and leadership. These skills are essential for their holistic development and future success.
Through PE, pupils at Iver Village Junior School will gain not only physical fitness but also essential life skills that will empower them to lead active, healthy lifestyles and succeed in their future endeavours. PE plays a crucial role in shaping well-rounded individuals who are prepared to face the demands of an ever-changing world.
Believe, Achieve, Succeed together - in PE, we strive to embody this ethos and empower our students to reach their full potential, both on and off the field.
