Iver Village Junior School - Languages Curriculum Intent Statement

At Iver Village Junior School, we believe that learning French as our chosen Modern Foreign Language is a gateway to embracing cultural diversity, fostering curiosity about the world, and developing essential skills for our pupils. Our vision for Languages is deeply rooted in our commitment to Believe, Achieve, Succeed together, where we aim to provide an inclusive and stimulating learning environment that nurtures a love for languages and cultures.
Languages education is fundamental in our curriculum as it opens doors to new perspectives, enhances communication skills, and promotes understanding of different cultures. Through learning French, pupils not only acquire language proficiency but also develop a broader worldview, critical thinking abilities, and appreciation for diversity.
Our Languages curriculum aligns with our school's values by promoting respect for other languages and cultures, encouraging collaboration, and fostering a sense of curiosity about the world. We aim to empower students to succeed not only academically but also as global citizens who value and celebrate cultural differences.
Our French curriculum ensures a seamless progression in language learning, equipping students with the necessary skills to engage confidently in spoken and written communication. By providing a strong linguistic foundation, we prepare students for further language study and real-world applications.
Languages are integrated across the curriculum to enhance interdisciplinary connections and broaden students' understanding of various subjects. Through language-based activities, students engage in cross-curricular learning experiences that deepen their appreciation for different cultures and perspectives.
In addition to language proficiency, our Languages curriculum focuses on developing critical skills such as communication, problem-solving, and cultural awareness. Pupils engage in collaborative activities, creative projects, and real-world language tasks that enhance their cognitive abilities and social skills.
Through our Languages curriculum, pupils gain not only language proficiency but also valuable skills and competencies that prepare them for future challenges. By fostering a love for languages and cultures, we empower pupils to succeed in an increasingly interconnected and diverse world.
At Iver Village Junior School, our Languages curriculum is a testament to our dedication to providing a holistic and enriching education that equips pupils with the tools they need to thrive academically, socially, and culturally.
At the end of each topic, pupils will complete a subject knowledge snapshot quiz based on the year group's
assessment criteria. This will help teachers to identify areas of learning that are secure and areas of development for future teaching.
