Eco-Schools
At Iver Village Junior School we are enormously proud of our Eco-School Council and Monitors. The Eco Council Committee is made up of pupils in all year groups and from all classes in our school as well as senior teaching staff, non-teaching staff and governors. We believe it is important that every pupil in our school can speak to an eco-representative from their own class as well as to the teaching staff so that they can pass on their ideas for looking after our environment.
Over the last few years, we have been working very hard to promote a sustainable school. Our commitment to the project has been hugely successful as we were awarded with the 'Green Flag' status!
We were reassessed in April 2020 and are delighted to announce that our Green Flag Award has been successfully renewed for another two years. Our assessor reported:
"I would like to congratulate you for all the time and effort that has been invested in environmental education at your school. Your award is well deserved and reflects the hard work you have put into the programme so far."

Our Eco-schools Monitors actively encourage our whole school to switch off lights and smart boards that aren't being used, to recycle paper, compost raw food waste, to turn off taps, water the plants and to look after our environment. To achieve these aims, they regularly take part in and promote:
- Switch off Month
- Waste Week
- The Big Schools Birdwatch Survey
- Walk to School initiatives
- Recycling
- The Big Battery Hunt

Everyone can play their part in making our school and local community more environmentally friendly. We encourage everyone, who can, to walk to school or the shops whenever possible.
We also recycle old batteries, used stamps, milk bottle tops and ink cartridges, so bring in any that are unwanted to the reception, so that we can recycle them responsibly for you and stop these products ending up in landfill sites! We are excited to announce that we now recycle crisp packets! There is a collection box in the Iver Diner and Mrs Poole kindly takes the packets to a local recycling point.
