Curriculum Overview
At IVJS, we provide a curriculum which is not only broad and balanced but equips children for the next phase of their education and for life in modern Britain. We want all our pupils to be able to be effective citizens, to care about the community in which they live and to understand their place in our world.
We believe that a ‘Can do’ attitude is essential and therefore we promote a growth mindset culture. We want children to leave us with a love of learning and the skills they need for life.
Reading is a key part of our curriculum. We use texts to inspire our children and base their learning around core texts. Reading is an essential skill and therefore we have made it a key element to our children’s learning.
In addition to statutory requirements of the national curriculum, we provide children with opportunities to explore and develop their own beliefs and values, to make use of the outdoors, to develop a caring attitude to others and an appreciation of the diversity and richness of other cultures.
We give our children an insight into what it means to be British in the 21st century so that all children are fully prepared for their lifelong journey of learning and understanding. To help achieve this, our themed topics cover a range of cultures which have impacted on British society such as a study of the local area, The Romans and The Anglo Saxons. We regularly take part in events in our local area to develop the feeling of belonging to our community.
Sport is an important part of school life at IVJS. We are very proud to have been awarded the Gold School Games Mark and to have been one of the 3 runners up in the ‘Primary School of the Year’ for Bucks and Milton Keynes in 2018 and 2021.

Core Subjects
We follow the new National Curriculum in Maths, English and Science in all year groups. However, some science units have been moved to an alternative year group to ensure there is enough time for good quality coverage.
