Prevent
As part of The Iver Village Junior School's duty to safeguard all children, the school is fully committed to the government's Prevent Strategy and is subject to the duty to have "due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn in to terrorism" under the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015. This duty is known as The Prevent Duty for Schools.

To build our children’s resilience to radicalisation, a curriculum has been developed that is based on our school values (underpinned by fundamental British Values) and to meet the objectives and statutory coverage of the National Curriculum (2014). Critical thinking skills are taught through a wide range of topics and children are given regular opportunities to reflect on their rights, responsibilities, feelings, emotions and learn how to be a good citizen through our PSHE curriculum, British Values day and our Rights Respecting Schools project. We encourage children to challenge racist and prejudiced comments, explore the concept of democracy and develop a strong sense of their own identity and belonging.
All staff have received Prevent training to support them in recognising who may be vulnerable and how to deal with any concerns of radicalisation that may arise. This is part of an ongoing school programme of Safeguarding and Child Protection training.
Internet filters have recently been upgraded to meet the highest recommended standard, in order that the risk of exposure to extremist and offensive materials is minimised and managed.
Some advice on talking to children who are worried about terrorism can be found on the NSPCC website here.
