Buckinghamshire County Council will be holding a consultation meeting regarding the review of the Home to School Transport arrangements, this will be looking at potentially ending the free transport offered to secondary school age local residents to Bucks County Schools including Chalfont Community College. There will be a meeting held here, at The Iver Village Junior School on Monday 12th November at 7pm, to discuss the proposed changes and to get feedback from the local residents. As we are aware that this will affect many of our parents who wish their children to attend Bucks secondary schools (Chalfont Community College) and who are already attending these settings, we would urge as many of our local residents as possible to attend the meeting to have everyone's views heard. Click here for more information on the consultation (information on the Bucks County Council website). This Week In School… Year 3 – have been investigating crime scene found out Tuesday morning in our playground! Look out for their newspaper reports about the situation next week. In Maths, they have been learning the expanded method of column multiplication for 2 and 3 digit numbers. Year 4 – have begun reading their new class book, Varjak Paw. They have written an informal letter to Elder Paw asking for his advice. In Maths, they have begun looking at multiplication and finding factor pairs of numbers. In Art, they’ve learned about the importance of Remembrance Day and have created a special poppy piece of work. Year 5 – have been learning all about the timeline of key events, which has related well to their Power of Reading book: Odysseus. In Maths, they have been learning about statistics, it's been great understanding exactly how to interpret graphs and start to create their own, based on data that they have collected themselves. They have also been lucky enough to have a special visitor from the Iver Parish council in this week, who explained all about Remembrance day - they spent the afternoon looking at pictures, old uniform and even some medals from old soldier! Year 6 – have started to write a newspaper report linked to their Power of Reading book, The Last Wild. Prior to this, they spent some time analysing newspaper reports and identifying the features of newspapers. In Maths, they have been looking at the recent tests the children completed in order to address any misconceptions they may have had. Last week, 4 children from Year 5 were invited to attend 'E-safety Ambassadors' training in Wycombe. These new E-Safety Ambassadors learnt how to be safer online and it will be their responsibility to help others to be safer online and to talk to children across the school about any e-safety concerns which they may have.
Each year group will also be having e-safety training over the next 2 weeks in preparation for the launch of the e-safety ambassadors before Christmas. Please let me introduce to you, Connor, Joules, Lacey and Molly as our E-Safety Ambassadors. We had a lovely start this morning with pupils and parents settling into a good book before school in our school library. Thank you to everyone who attended, it’s really lovely to see so many children enthusiastic about reading!
This month the article from the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child is Article 28.
It is all about how every child has the right to an education. We are so lucky and fortunate to be able to come to school free of charge. In many countries children still are not able to go to school or it is not free so they can’t afford to go. By not going to school children miss out on learning to read, write and doing basic maths skills. So when they are older they find it difficult to find good jobs. We want all the children at our school to leave being confident in these aspects but also we want them to develop skills that will support them to be good confident citizens in their future work and family lives. This months article is Article 28: -Your right to learn and go to school Every child has the right to an education. Primary education must be free. Discipline in schools must respect children’s human dignity. Wealthy countries must help poorer countries achieve this. Talk time!
In recognition of the centenary of the end of the First World War, we will again be supporting the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. Children will be able to purchase poppies as well as other items from our prefects who will visit each class to sell these items in the afternoons, commencing next Monday, 5th November.
