As you know, at IVJS we are having a Reading Revolution and we would like to invite you all to participate! The overall aim is to develop a love of reading in every child at our school and you as parents will be vital in helping your child develop a love of reading. Therefore, we would like to invite you to a couple of reading events being held over the next few weeks... We would like to invite you to the Lower School Christmas production. We have two performances, Tuesday 5th December at 1.30pm—Younger brothers and sisters are welcome at this performance. Please do not arrive for this performance until 1.15 pm at the earliest. Wednesday 6th December at 6.30 p.m. – No under fives at this performance please Tickets are now available by completing the form. On the Wednesday, lower school children will need to return to school by 6:00pm so they have time to get changed into their costumes. There will be a short interval where tea, coffee and mince pies will be available to buy. There will also be a small raffle. All children will need to be collected by an adult at the end of the performance. This year’s Iver Christmas Lights Switch On Event will be held on Saturday 25th November and I am very excited to announce that our choir has been asked to perform at this event alongside the Infant School choir. The performance will be at the end of the school fair, just before the raffle will be drawn. We anticipate the children will sing at around 2.30pm and would need to be here, at the fair for 2.15pm in uniform. Saturday 25th November is our Christmas Fayre and we are inviting the Year 6 children to help run some games, as well as sell the products they make during our ‘Mini Enterprise Week’ (Wednesday15th- Wednesday 22nd November). During the Mini Enterprise Week, Year 6 will be in groups, making crackers, Christmas cards, Christmas tree decorations and more! They’ll be in competition with each other to make the best business and produce the best Christmas treats. Imagine ‘The Apprentice’, but with Year 6, and you’ve got the idea!
Today, we held our special Anti-Bullying Week Assembly where the focus this year is, "All Different, All Equal."
Anti-Bullying Week highlights and focuses on bullying and encourages all children, teachers and parents to take action against bullying, not just this week but throughout the year. All week during PSHE they will discussing this topic in more detail. To end the assembly they sung one of their favourite songs, "It's Good To Be Me." The FISA Christmas Fayre is coming and we would really like your help. We will be asking for donations on the following dates however if you miss a day please bring it in on a day that is convenient for you. All donations are gratefully received. As part of our year of reading we have been lucky enough to secure a therapy dog to come into school to support children with reading. Over the last few years, there has been extensive research about the benefit that dogs can have in developing children’s confidence with reading and we hope this exciting opportunity will support your child! The opportunity to read to the Reading Dog will be in addition to the reading your child normally does in class.
