Huge and Ralph have been having some down time listening to some of their favourite songs on their headphones!
What are you listening to at the moment? Send your songs to your class teacher! #ivjs #ivjsdogs #music #headphones Today's country was... Tunisia in Africa.
As usual, the day started with the Joe Wicks Workout and then a slow walk around the playground to cool down. It was then time to find out a little bit about Tunisia - Miss James gave the children some information about the country and they learnt things such as what a souk is (a market), what the climate is like in Tunisia, what geographical features the country has, what the art is like and many other interesting facts. After this, it was time for a little bit of Science - where the children learnt about kites and how forces work together to enable them to fly. This was then followed by some DT - making their own kites! The Tunisian theme was kept as the children decorated their kites with Tunisian patterns. The kites were finished by attaching a rainbow ribbon. Afterwards, they were able to write their own instructions for making a kite. Following lunch, the group did some maths work and then finished the afternoon by going outside to try out their kites - and had great fun flying them! Tomorrow we will be visiting a country in North America. Brainiacs are back this Friday! Your teacher will be awarding 1 Brainiac each week to the pupil that shows the most dedication to their Home Learning! Please send an e-mail to your teacher showing evidence of all the work you have been doing and they will select someone who will be awarded the Brainiac for your class! Each week a different teacher will then record a 'Celebration Assembly' video talking about the winners! Do you deserve the Brainiac this week?
p.s. Mr Hawkes will also be on the look out for his weekly Sportiac! The day started with the regular work-out with Joe Wicks before doing some maths work and then outside for some more cricket.
After this it was time to get the computers out to research today's country - Japan. The children visited various websites to find interesting facts about Japan and then wrote these on post-it notes which were stuck around a large map of the country. Did you know: Japan's currency is the Japanese Yen? Japan sits along the "Pacific Ring of Fire" so has many volcanoes? The Japanese flag is a red sun rising? Japan's time is 8 hours ahead of the UK? The capital city of Japan is Tokyo? After researching Japan and a break outside, the children then found out about a type of Japanese poetry called a Haiku. These are poems which are usually based on nature or animals and which have three lines with 5 syllables in the first line, 7 in the second line and 5 again in the third line. The children went outside for some inspiration and then wrote their own Haikus. These are some of them: Dog by Jake She lives at my house She barks when she sees a cat It is 12 months old. The Wind by Theo Let the wind blow now In the world of love and care Blowing blossom trees. Tiger by Katie Unchallenged danger They enjoy the bright blue sky I want to ride one. The afternoon was spent being creative and making Japanese fans which the children decorated with their name written in Japanese. Where will we be visiting tomorrow? As a school, we have achieved the Rights Respecting School - Level 2 (GOLD) award. This is an amazing achievement as we are the first primary school in Buckinghamshire to achieve this.
The ‘Rights Respecting School’ award (RRSA) will help our pupils to grow into confident, caring and responsible young citizens both in school and within the wider community. By learning about their rights our pupils, your children, also learn about the importance of respecting the rights of others i.e. their responsibilities. This is a weekly publication highlighting a different article ... introducing Article 24 Here is another attempt to play 'Balloon Tennis' at home. This is what you need: Balloon Area: Setting up something in between two sides (tennis court style) Players must be on their bottoms. Alternate serving, all shots must be underarm (so balloon goes up) Point scored every time the balloon touches the floor. Have you tried it yet? Send in your videos to your class teacher... This week we are going around the world in 5 days! We are aiming to virtually visit a different continent each day and have today visited New Zealand in Oceania, after first looking at a giant map of the World.
The children started their day with the Joe Wicks workout before embarking on a bit of arithmetic to get their brains going. This was then followed by some time outside and then they started to do some research on New Zealand. After another break outside, it was time for some cricket (after all, New Zealand does have a cricket team!) before writing some 'postcards' home from New Zealand. After lunch and some more time outside (it was such a lovely day), the children learnt how to do the traditional New Zealand haka and had a go at it themselves. The day finished with another game of cricket as they enjoyed it so much earlier in the day. Dear Parents
I hope you are all well and keeping safe. Thank you for all the kind messages you have been sending to teachers and posting on Facebook, we really appreciate them! These are unprecedented times and, like you, we are doing our very best to find a way through. It is, without any doubt, essential that we follow the Government’s guidelines and stay at home wherever possible. Please don’t take any risks and stay at home. Thank you to all the families who have been sending us examples of the things the children have been doing at home. We are delighted that so many of you are taking this opportunity to learn new skills and we would encourage you to try new things during this lockdown. Gardening, cooking and craft activities are just as important as Maths and English. We are now fast approaching our summer term and we are preparing some home learning tasks for the children. We have decided that each week we will put on our website activities for children to do. We will do our best to provide a Maths and English activity for each day and then a project for every week linked to something they would have been learning about in school. It is not expected for children to do a full day of learning so please don’t try to do any more than two tasks in a day. Remember that you and your child will need time to process what is going on in the world so please take time for yourselves and talk about the events that are unfolding around us. Reassure each other that it is ok to feel anxious and worried, and talk about how you feel. If you have any questions, or need help, please email the school office and we will get back to you as soon as we can. If you call the school and leave a message please be aware that we are not picking up these messages very regularly. We are missing every single one of you and I am missing seeing those smiley faces coming into school each morning. I can’t wait until we are back to normal and our school community is back to together. Please stay safe and I look forward to the time when we can all be back at IVJS. Take care, We’ve had another exciting day at IVJS. We started our day by playing maths games together. We all helped to work out the answers. We had brought our bikes and scooters in to ride on the playground which was great fun! Then we made our own salt dough from scratch and cut them in to different shapes! We let them bake over the day and then painted them this afternoon to really bring them to life! We also made our own pizzas using a tortilla wrap. They were delicious.
