This week we are having a Safety Week at IVJS. The children will be learning about Fire Safety, Stranger Danger, Online Safety and Road Safety. Please ask your children what they have learnt about each day.
Thank you to everyone who attended Friday’s Maths Coffee Afternoon. Mr Clifford and Miss Zughaid had a fantastic chat with parents about how Maths is taught throughout the school and what parents can do to help their children at home. We will be holding the next Coffee Morning on Friday 23rd March so keep an eye out for details!
This Week In School… Year 3 – have been busy writing instructions on How to Make the Most Spectacular Seawig and they have continued their understanding of fractions by working on word problems. Year 4 – have been writing their persuasive letter to supermarkets, urging them to recycle more plastic. In Maths, the children have been learning how to find fractions of amounts. As part of the Take One Picture week, they have also looked at geometric shapes within moons. Year 5 – have been tackling multiplying and dividing fractions. They have all persevered to ensure that they have reached their goal - they should all be extremely proud of their achievements in Maths this week. In Literacy, they have been focusing on writing a narrative, including a fantasy world. It would be amazing if children could tell you about this narrative text - maybe they could improvise and turn it into a drama with siblings and friends? Take One Picture has been a real success this week! Year 5 have been creating giant graphs, having fun with water in Science (hoping that Miss Manni and Mrs Jaques were going to get very wet!). Year 6 – have edited and published their fantastic non-chronological reports about red foxes. Now they know an incredible amount about this amazing creature. In addition, they have been revising their spelling and grammar understanding daily SPaG lessons. In Maths, they have been measuring and drawing angles using a protractor and particularly enjoyed their Take One Pictur' Maths lesson where they measured angles on Picasso portraits. Their science experiment, where we tested air pressure using an egg and a conical flask, was a lot of fun! Each year the National Gallery encourages primary school teachers and children to focus on one painting from the collection and respond creatively to its themes and subject matter, historical context, or composition. This learner-led project focuses on learning new processes inspired by the theme of painting, air, through a variety of subjects. Each year group has focused on a different aspect of the painting in Art, Science, Maths and P4C. Have a look at just some of the work we have done this week! |
