This Week In School…
Year 3 – have been developing their persuasive writing skills this week. They have used Pixar's short film 'For The Birds' as inspiration to create a persuasive letter to stop bullying. In Maths, they have been busy learning about different types of angles and how to recognise these in variety of 2D shapes. In Humanities, they have begun their new History topic of Ancient Egypt and have created their own timelines of the key events from this era. Year 4 – have started designing and writing a setting description about their dream playground. In Maths, they have been learning how to plot and describe position using coordinates. In Science, the children explored how animals are classified and were able to define what a vertebrate and invertebrate is. In History, they were exploring who Boudicca was and how she reacted to the Roman Invasion. In Guided Reading, the children were using the reading skill prediction, to predict what their new text is about! Year 5 – have continued to learn more about decimal numbers - honing their skills in addition and subtraction. The children also worked hard on researching the Ukraine war; their enthusiasm and engagement was outstanding! In Guided Reading, the children started exploring a new book called The Journey and the children formulated excellent predictions about the book! The children also had some really lovely insights to share about morals, values in choices in RE and they enjoyed turning negative affirmations to positive ones in PSHE. The teachers were impressed by how well the Year 5 children settled in to the new term and by their hard work! Year 6 – have started a maths bakery project which encompasses lots of the skills they have been learning throughout the year; they have solved problems involving: ratio and proportion, the four operations, measure (unit conversions), percentages and money. In English, they have started writing the story of 'The Three Little Pigs' from the point of view of the big, bad wolf. The children are continuing with their topic of the circulatory system in Science and in groups, have produced posters to show how nutrients and water are transported around the body. As well as working hard in class, the children have also started rehearsing for the Y6 end of year production, 'Cinderella & Rockerfella'. Comments are closed.
