![]() This Week In School… Year 3 – have settled beautifully into life at IVJS. It is very hard to get used to a new routine in a new school and we are very proud of the way that the Year 3s have risen to the challenge. In English, Year 3 became the old man from 'The Tin Forest' and have recounted the events of the story through a diary entry. They have imagined wide, windswept places and put themselves in the shoes of another person. In Maths, they have begun investigating number and place value with the help of Charlie the crocodile. In Humanities, they have begun to investigate the world around them using maps. They have discussed the difference between human and physical features and used that knowledge to help examine maps of the school, Iver, Buckinghamshire and England! Year 4 – have been working really hard learning all about plastic pollution and have started writing their information leaflets on the topic, persuading their readers to save the environment! They have also been doing extremely well in Maths with their work on place value and have been rounding up to the nearest ten and nearest hundred. Year 5 – have had a busy first week back! They have been writing poetry linked to their class book 'The Journey'. They have tried to use as many language features as we can. In Maths, they have been looking at place value and have been looking at counting on and back in powers of ten. Year 5 are also trying to improve their initial scores in the Time table Mastery league. Year 6 – have settled in to the new school year and are already working hard! They have been researching global warming and climate change in English so that they can write a non-chronological report on the subject. This is linked to their class book which they have started reading; 'Floodlands' by Marcus Sedgwick. In Humanities, the children are studying South America and have already found out lots of interesting facts. On top of all this hard work, many of the year group sat their 11+ examinations this week.
