Could you be a school governor? The governing board of Iver Village Junior School is an important part of the school community. It is responsible for: ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction; holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent. The board is currently looking for new members. No special qualifications are needed and the most important thing is to have a keen interest in the school and be prepared to play an active part in the work of the governing board. Free training is available. There is currently 1 vacancy for a parent governor and several vacancies for co-opted governors. Parent governors must be "parents" (which includes anyone who has parental responsibility for, or cares for, a child at the school). Co-opted governors do not need to be parents - they just need to have the skills required to contribute to the effective governance and success of the school. (There are some circumstances where someone cannot serve as a governor, summarised in the information below) If you would like to stand for election, please complete a nomination form and return it to the school as soon as possible. You may also include a short personal statement to support your nomination, which should be no longer than 250 words. Forms are available to download at the bottom of this page or paper copies will be available at the school reception. Self-nominations will be accepted but if you are nominating another parent, please seek their prior consent. If there are more nominations than vacancies, the election will be by secret ballot. If that is necessary, voting papers will be sent to all parents together with details of the ballot procedure. If you would like to know more, please speak to me, or contact our Chair of Governors, Mark Vinall ([email protected]) or another member of the governing board.
