Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are writing to inform you of an upcoming Year 6 trip that will provide your child with the opportunity to visit Oxford Castle and Prison. This trip is scheduled for Friday 5th June, 2026. The main objective of the trip is to explore the topic of Crime and Punishment in History through workshops and a tour of the castle and its prison. The activities will be led by staff at Oxford Castle, assisted by IVJS staff. Pupils will need to arrive at school by 8:30am and they will travel to Oxford Castle by coach. They will leave Oxford Castle at 2:15pm and should be back at school for collection at 3:15pm. The children will be wearing their school uniform and will need to bring a packed lunch. Please be aware the children will be required to walk for 5-10 minutes from where the coach will drop us off to the castle and may need a coat depending on the weather. To keep costs down for parents the school will fund the cost of the coach, £675 which means the cost of the trip per pupil will be £15 to cover entrance to the castle and the workshops. If you are happy to contribute, please make a payment on your School Money account. Please confirm whether you would be happy for your child to participate in this trip by completing the form on the paper copy of this letter already sent home with Y6 or email permission to [email protected]. Should you have any questions or concerns about the trip, please do not hesitate to contact me. Yours sincerely, Miss Short Dear Year 5 Parent/Guardian, Year 5 have been taking part in the Schools Across the Ocean programme. This is where The British Council and the University of Exeter have partnered our Year 5 classes with classes from schools in Brazil for 6 weeks, giving Year 5 the chance to explore climate and ocean literacy through storytelling, art, poetry, and film. In previous years, they have also brought children’s SATO work together into some really powerful collaborative outputs. These have included books, images, and films shared at COP climate conferences - such as their We Are the Ocean book. These collective pieces allow the SATO programme to showcase children’s work on a global stage, ensuring their powerful voices are heard by decision-makers. They are looking at sharing images/videos from us at IVJS on the below platforms:

Dear Parent/Carer,
Invitation to our Online PSHE Curriculum Review Meeting on Wednesday 29th April 2026 At Iver Village Junior School, we are committed to providing high-quality Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education that supports your child's development and wellbeing throughout their time with us. Reviewing our PSHE provision We are currently reviewing our PSHE curriculum in line with the DfE's updated statutory guidance for Relationships, Sex and Health Education (published 2025, for implementation from September 2026). This is a positive opportunity to bring our curriculum content up to date in a changing world, whilst maintaining our age-appropriate focus on the core knowledge and essential skills that children need to navigate different aspects of their lives with confidence both in and beyond primary school. At Iver Village Junior School, we use Jigsaw, the mindful approach to PSHE, as our comprehensive scheme of work. The programme consists of six half-term units (Puzzles): Being Me in My World, Celebrating Difference, Dreams and Goals, Healthy Me, Relationships and Changing Me. Each Puzzle contains lessons that build progressively through the school, developing children's emotional literacy, self-esteem, resilience and understanding of how to build positive, healthy relationships. The updated guidance enhances the Jigsaw programme we already know and trust, rather than requiring radical changes. The strong foundations remain the same - we continue to focus on building the fundamental skills and knowledge children need - whilst ensuring our content reflects the world they are growing up in. As part of our review, we are also considering how we adapt the programme content to best suit the needs and context of our school community. Your views matter As part of our review process, we warmly invite you to attend a consultation session where you will have the opportunity to:
Working in partnership We believe that PSHE education is most effective when schools and families work together. Your child's wellbeing, safety and personal development are at the heart of everything we do, and we value your input as we ensure our curriculum continues to meet the needs of our school community. We look forward to sharing our provision with you and hearing your views. Please let us know whether you are able to attend our online session by completing the online form below to school by Tuesday 28th April 2026. Kind regards, Paul Clifford Deputy Head Teacher |
