Dear Parents/Guardians,
Y4 pupils will be required to sit the National Multiplication Check (MTC) next term. This check assesses pupils’ fluency in all times tables up to and including 12 x 12. The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics and part of the Y4 National Curriculum. It will help us as a school to identify pupils who have not yet mastered their times tables, so that additional support can be provided. Rapid recall of these times tables gives pupils an excellent foundation on which they can build a wide variety of mathematical skills. The current Y4 pupils will do the check in school in small groups on iPads and will take about five minutes to do. The test will take place between 6th and 24th June 2022 and we will ensure that pupils complete the check when they are most ready within this window. The outcome of the check will be used to ensure we have a clear picture of pupils’ times table fluency and allow us to provide targeted support where needed. There is no pass mark for the test and you will be informed of your child’s score. In order to help your child to prepare for the format of the check and ensure their fluency in times tables, we ask that you encourage your child to use their online TTRockstars account as regularly as possible – it has an excellent track record for improving times table recall and is great fun! When your child logs in to TTRockstars they should complete the ‘soundcheck’ option. This is an online game set up in the same way as the MTC. Practising via ‘Sound Check’ will help children to prepare for the format of the MTC as well as supporting the learning of their times tables. If you have any further questions about the MTC, please contact the school or your child’s class teacher. Yours sincerely, Miss Couves Comments are closed.
