Dear Parents/Carers,
I am writing to you to share some sad news. Just over a week ago Mrs Chapman-Allen suffered a stroke. She is now in the process of recovering and is receiving intensive treatment in a stroke unit. As you can imagine this has been a great shock but now she is out of danger and has given permission for us to share the news with you. While Mrs Chapman-Allen is absent from school Miss Couves, our SENCo, will be covering Mrs Chapman-Allen's role alongside myself. I am sure that you would all join me in wishing Mrs Chapman-Allen a full recovery. We will be happy to pass on your good wishes or deliver any cards you may wish to send. Kindest regards, Miss Digweed The children have settled in, been fed and played group games! Ready for a full day of adventures on Tuesday!
This Week In School…
Year 3 – have been learning how to add 2- and 3- digit numbers by using the column method in Maths this week, using dienes apparatus for support. In English, they have been using persuasive language in a letter to the local community, expressing their concerns about pollution in the area. They have included rhetorical questions as part of their writing. In Art, they have been exploring texture, working outside to collect rubbings of a range of different surfaces. These will be used in artwork using the 'frottage' technique during the next lesson. In Science, they have been looking at the life cycle of a plant, focusing on germination, growth, pollination and seed dispersal. Year 4 – have started to plan their own adventure story about a plastic bag. In Maths, the children have been adding two 4-digit numbers without exchanging. In Science, Year 4 have been describing the process of the water cycle. They now know that water is in a constant movement through the process of the water cycle. In French, they continued to learn numbers up to 20 and practiced saying their age. In Art, Year 4 were practicing to use scissors with precision, made decisions about how to place drawn elements in their composition and created a contrast by combining different shapes, sizes and texture. In History, the children were learning about ancient Greek warfare, including The Battle of Marathon and the Trojan War. Year 5 – have practised addition and subtraction, honing their skills to perfection and learning to use inverse operations to double-check their answers. In English, children have begun writing a leaflet on China – their use of noun phrases and various sentence openers have been remarkable! In History, the children practised their historical enquiry skills by carrying out research to find facts about the Vikings and in art they planned their pencil cases that they hope to create after half-term. It was a busy and exciting week in Year 5! Year 6 – have engaged in a wide range of activities this week. In Maths, they have been solving problems involving multiplication and division, including those with multiple steps. In English, Year 6 have watched a video about the ‘baboon on the moon’. They will be using this stimulus to write a persuasive letter to help the baboon return to his home and be with his family. They have looked at features of persuasive writing and begun to plan the arguments to include in their letter. In Geography, Year 6 have written a fact file about the South American mountain range (The Andes). In Science, the children have identified evidence for evolution from fossil records. In Art, Year 6 have started to think about how they could make their voices heard through art.
