Tickets are now available for this year's Y6 production!
Performances will be on Tuesday 8th July at 1.30pm and Wednesday 9th July at 5pm. Due to the smaller year 6 cohort this year, we are able to allow 3 tickets per performance, per child to keep within a set capacity for our hall, this is in order to comply with fire safety regulations. We are limiting the numbers so that every family has the chance to see their child without tickets selling out. If we have any spare tickets, we will let you know the day before each performance. We are charging £3 per ticket to help towards our costs, this includes the licence fee and music for the play, the sound and lighting equipment and buying new costumes. Tickets are available through your child's School Money account; you will find 6 separate payments, one for each of the available tickets for you. Please only pay for the tickets you wish to purchase, tickets will be sent out next week. Please note, we are asking parents not to bring children under 5 years old to the Wednesday evening performance. As always, please speak to the school if you are having any issues logging on to your School Money account or are struggling with the cost of the tickets or have any queries about the price, we are always here to help in any way possible. Sex and Relationship Education As part of the school’s Personal, Social and Health Education programme your child will soon receive lessons on relationships and puberty. The purpose of Sex and Relationship Education (SRE) is to provide knowledge and understanding of how the human body changes during puberty and about relationships based on love and respect. If young people can start their transition into adulthood with good information and the confidence and knowledge to understand what is happening to them, they will hopefully grow into confident and healthy adults able to make positive choices. This can start with learning the basics about growing up and the sessions in school may reinforce what you are already doing at home. The children will be taught in their normal classes; the SRE programme includes resources from Jigsaw and Medway Council in addition to watching a series of ‘Class Clips’ from BBC Teach and input from the class teachers. All teaching materials are appropriate to the age and emotional maturity of the pupils concerned and the teachers will aim to present the programme in an objective, balanced and sensitive manner. The clips can be viewed here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/pshe-ks2-operation-ouch-how-are-babies-made-sex/zsxtp4j The programme will cover: · Lesson 1: Physical and emotional changes that occurring during puberty. · Lesson 2: Understand how a baby is made - Sexual Intercourse · Lesson 3: Healthy Relationships · Lesson 4: Consent · Lesson 5: Appropriate and inappropriate touch · Lesson 6: Real self and ideal self-image Parents can withdraw their children from lessons 1 and 2 of the Sex and Relationship Education because these do not form part of the statutory National Curriculum. If you wish to withdraw your child from lesson 1 and 2 of the school’s Sex and Relationship Education programme, please email the office before the programme starts [email protected]. Class teachers in Year 6 will begin the programme w/c Monday 30th June 2025. Yours sincerely, Mrs Bowden / Mrs Short RE: Year 5 Science and PSHE Lessons – Summer term 2
Over Summer term 2 our science lessons are based on the topic ‘Life cycles’. Throughout this topic, children will learn about the life cycle of different animals including amphibians, insects, birds, mammals and plants including stages of fertilisation, reproduction and pollination respectively. The PSHE curriculum for summer term 2 focuses on the topic ‘Changing Me’. During this topic, children will learn about their own self-image and how their body image fits into that. They will also learn about how a girls / boys body changes during puberty and understand the importance of looking after yourself physically and emotionally. Below shows the outline of the lessons in the second part of the science unit that involve the lifecycles mammals and the reproduction of mammals and plants that will be covered and the vocabulary used. As these are part of the National Curriculum all children are expected to take part in these lessons. If you do have any questions or worries, please speak to a member of staff. Kindest regards, Ms. Wick Miss Fletcher Please click the thumbnail below to read the full letter. Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are delighted to inform you that our latest ungraded Ofsted report has now been published and we are feeling very proud of our wonderful school! Ofsted has recognised that our work in all areas has improved significantly since our last inspection. We’re extremely happy that the hard work of our staff and pupils has been recognised, and I’m sure you’ll join me in congratulating everyone who works and volunteers at our school. I want to draw your attention to some of the highlights of the report:
You can access the report in full here: https://reports.ofsted.gov.uk/provider/21/110239 Thank you once again for all of the support you continue to give our school. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Yours sincerely, Miss Digweed This Week In School…
Year 3 – have had a fantastic session with Science Oxford. They learnt all about how air, weight and shape contribute to the effectiveness of a rocket. They then proceeded to make their very own rockets, which they launched safely into the sky. In English, they wrote a persuasive letter based on the short video, 'For the Birds'. They tried to persuade the little birds to stop bullying the big bird, using a variety of persuasive devices to accomplish this goal. In maths, they finished up their topic on shapes by exploring 3-D shapes. They examined the number of edges, vertices, and faces in a 3-D shape and grouped them into different categories. In French, they began learning the names of various animals. They learnt the names for lion (un lion), horse (un cheval), bird (un oiseau), pig (un cochon) and rabbit (un lapin). Year 4 – have finished the shape topic in Maths and moved on to learning about statistics. They applied their knowledge from Science lessons, when drawing bar charts and pictograms to represent data. In English, they have been creative and designed their own dream playground with no limitations. They created some really imaginative ideas and have enjoyed publishing their setting descriptions. The children have learnt about nets for 3D shapes in D.T and practised assembling them, ready to make their own packaging. In Science, Year 4 were really lucky to have a visit from Science Oxford, where they participated in a workshop and made their own creatures out of different materials. They adapted their creatures based on the habitat that they are in. In computing, we recapped our SMART acronym for staying safe online and talked about our health and wellbeing whilst online. Year 5 – have settled back into their routines quickly and enjoyed a packed week of exciting lessons. In Maths, they explored how to plot and read coordinates, showing great accuracy and enthusiasm. With eagerness, the children researched the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia to help them write their own news broadcast scripts in English. In Science, the children learned about the life cycles of frogs and salamanders and in RE, they explored the Hindu creation story and reflected on how the origin of the Earth is explained through the lens of Hinduism. PE was great fun as the children practised their cricket skills, and in PSHE, discussions centred around how to make online gaming a safer and more inclusive space for everyone. It’s been a busy and brilliant week in Year 5! Year 6 – have started a maths bakery project which encompasses many skills learnt throughout the year; they have solved problems involving: ratio and proportion, the four operations, measure (unit conversions), percentages and money. In English, Year 6 are preparing to write a non-chronological report about owls. The inspiration for this comes from the class book they are reading (Skellig) in which two of the characters have an encounter with some owls. So far, the children have done some research about owls and have planned their reports, ready to start writing them next week. In Science, the children have continued to learn about the circulatory system and this week they have researched the impact of a healthy diet on our bodies. As well as working hard in class, Year 6 have also started rehearsing for the Y6 end of year production, ‘A Hint of Snow White’. They have already impressed us with their fantastic acting skills. |
