This Week In School…
Year 3 – have continued their writing based around 'The Pebble in my Pocket' book. This week, the focus has been on planning and writing the story of the journey of the pebble. In Maths, they have been learning about turns and angles. They made a right-angle monster to check angles around the classroom. In Humanities, they have continued to look at life in the Stone Age, including making their own cave paintings and writing about how to survive in the Stone Age. In R.E. they have continued to learn about Sikhism, the focus this week has been on special places, learning about parts of a Gurdwara. Year 4 – have been writing a series of diary entries from the perspective of the main character from this term's class text - The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. Edward, (a toy china rabbit) has been through a lot, he was savagely attacked by the neighbours' dog, slobbered on, hoovered by the new maid and stuck on a shelf like he was a common toy! In Maths, they have been rounding decimals, finding decimal equivalents of halves and quarters and beginning their topic on money. In Humanities, they have been exploring Roman beliefs and looking at the many gods that they believed in. Year 5 – have been editing and publishing their EPCOT leaflets. Children have made sure they have included all relevant language features including Year 5 and 6 spellings, apostrophes for contraction and modal verbs. For their Maths lessons, they have all been mastering adding and subtracting decimal numbers with the same number of decimal places and different number of decimal places. They have all made sure that they lined up the decimal points to ensure the digits for each number are in the correct column. They have continued with the Van Gogh unit in Art and have practiced pencil drawing their own hands. They concentrated on using line and shading and the children’s finished pieces were amazing. Year 6 – have spent time on revision as we make final preparations for SATs. The children have been working really hard in their revision lessons and have also been finishing their fantasy stories about a dragon slayer in English. In Humanities they have continued their topic about the ancient Maya civilisation and have been finding out about how the Maya society was organised; plus their religious beliefs. From Monday, our Year 6 pupils will be sitting their SATs exams.
To keep the morning rush as calm as possible, we are offering breakfast for our Year 6s from 8.15am so they can be settled in plenty of time for the tests to start! We are asking our Y6s to wear their full school uniform to school every day, Monday to Thursday to get them into the headspace for the exams. The children will be doing sports activities every afternoon next week as a wind down so please send your Y6 in with their PE kits each day. On Friday however, children should come to school in their PE kits for the full day. |
