Year 3 – have been writing stories based on the book ‘Owl Babies’ where the owls lose their mother! (Don’t worry, it all ends well!) Year 4 – have had an amazing experience with the Birds of Prey and have been writing reports on their afternoon with them. They have also started learning about volcanoes and how the Earth was formed over time. Year 5 – have started to write alternative versions of ‘The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark’ for an older audience. Year 6 – have been writing a report based on their enjoyable experience with the Birds of Prey. Click here for this week's bulletin. This week's Brainiac Awards have been handed out for great attitudes to learning, really putting in extra effort to improve work and even for being superstars all week! Great job guys!
For our first day of the Summer Term, we had a very special treat for everyone. Our friend Kyle allowed his friends Bagel, Bentley, Pandora, Lennie and Florence to fly in and meet everyone! Everyone had such an amazing day, we all hope Kyle and his friends drop by again soon!
Here at IVJS, we have recently set out on a path to become a ‘growth mindset’ school. A number of different methods are being used by staff (in lessons, PSHE days, assemblies, etc) to encourage all students to believe that the brain CAN grow and become ‘smarter through continuous effort and hard work’. This concept is gathering huge momentum in educational and psychological research most notably by Carol Dweck.

The National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) is doing this work for the Standards and Testing Agency (STA) which is part of the Department for Education (DfE). The materials that will be trialled are for assessing mathematics and this trial plays a critical role in developing tests that accurately measure pupils’ attainment and progress.
