Today we celebrated 'Safer Internet Day 2017' at IVJS with the theme 'Be the change: unite for a better internet'.
The whole school attended an assembly where they discussed how images are a big part of what we use the internet for, and using them safely and positively is something they should all be aware of. Furthermore, they will be discussing this during their PSHE lessons all week. The internet is a great place to share photos with people we know and trust, as long as we do it safely. The children were asked to ask themselves some questions before they share any photos to make sure they are being safe: 1. Who am I sharing this photo with? It is someone I know and trust in real life? 2. Who else might get to see it? Remember anyone can send or share a photo with others. 3. What will people be able to find out about me? Are there any clues to your personal information in the photo? 4. What will people be able to find out about the other people in the photo? Have you shared someone else’s personal information by accident too? The key thing for them to remember is to take a moment to think before they post anything online. That applies to comments and messages too! If anything or anyone ever upsets them online then they should always tell a trusted adult. The adult can help them feel better and help them to find a positive solution to their problem. They now know how to tell if a photo is okay to share online or not. Why don’t you ask your child all about what they have learnt today? We have organised a trip for our Year 3 to visit The Buckinghamshire Railway Centre in Aylesbury as part of their learning about the Victorians. The children will be learning about the Industrial Revolution and how this led to the invention of the steam trains, revolutionising transport into what we know it as today. The children will investigate how we travelled before the invention of the modern car, they will also get the chance to ride on a steam train and visit a miniature railway.
