Ivertastic Behaviour Curriculum

Intent:

At IVJS, we want exemplary behaviour to be an unspoken expectation.  We want to ‘make it easy to behave and hard not to’ through:

● Clear and concise rules, routines, rewards and consequences that every child and teacher follows;
● Teaching, not telling, children how to behave;
● Ensuring all adults are calm, consistent and fair in their response to behaviour;
● Focusing explicitly on positive behaviour: recognising, describing and explaining what we want to see; - catching children doing the right thing.
● Adapting our approaches, where needed, for specific children.

Through the Ivertastic Behaviour Curriculum, we will create a standardised and consistent approach to behaviour throughout the school. One that you can see in and apply to every classroom.

We would aim for all children to understand and practise behaviours regularly so that they become ‘intrinsic’. Clear expectations and routines are set to instil excellent conduct in both staff and children.
Implementation:

The curriculum is taught explicitly during the first full week in the Autumn term.
This will be revisited at the start of each term and will continue to be reinforced.
Teachers will also demonstrate these behaviours and ensure pupils have time to practice these (particularly at the start of term).

It is expected that all pupils will know this content.

Outcomes:

We will have defined our behaviours
We will expect all pupils will know these
Through practise, they will become automatic and standardised - ‘intrinsic’
We believe in 'teaching, not telling' children how to behave

“We make it easy to behave and not hard to”
