At Iver Village Junior School, our Design Technology curriculum is designed to continually develop our students' design skills through a variety of creative and practical activities. We believe in inspiring our pupils to design, make, and evaluate products while developing the technical knowledge associated with a range of topics such as food, textiles, mechanisms, and electrical systems.
Design Technology is a vital part of our curriculum as it equips pupils with essential skills and knowledge to navigate an increasingly technological world. Through this subject, pupils learn to think creatively, problem-solve, and innovate, preparing them for future challenges
Our Design Technology curriculum aligns seamlessly with the school's ethos of Believe, Achieve, Succeed together. By nurturing creativity, encouraging innovation, and fostering a passion for the subject, we empower our pupils to achieve success both academically and personally.
Building upon previous knowledge, our Design Technology curriculum sets a strong foundation for future learning. Throughout their time at IVJS, pupils develop their design skills progressively, ensuring a seamless transition and growth in their understanding and abilities.
Design Technology complements and enhances the broader curriculum by encouraging interdisciplinary connections. Students apply knowledge from subjects like mathematics, science, and art to their design projects, fostering a holistic approach to learning.
Our Design Technology curriculum focuses on developing critical skills such as creative thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and resilience. Students are encouraged to take creative risks, think innovatively, and develop as entrepreneurs in their own right.
Our curriculum choices in Design Technology are informed by educational research and data, ensuring that all pupils receive a high-quality and relevant learning experience that prepares them for the future.
Inputs from teachers, students, and the community shape our Design Technology curriculum, ensuring that it reflects the needs and aspirations of all involved in the learning process.
We are committed to regularly evaluating and adapting our Design Technology curriculum to maintain its relevance and effectiveness, ensuring that it continues to meet the evolving needs of our students.
Through Design Technology, students gain valuable skills and competencies that will serve them well beyond their time at Iver Village Junior School. By nurturing creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship, we prepare our students to excel in an ever-changing world.
By providing a comprehensive and engaging Design Technology curriculum, we aim to inspire our pupils to become confident, resourceful, and capable citizens who are ready to tackle the challenges of the future.
At the end of each topic, pupils will complete a subject knowledge snapshot quiz based on the year group's assessment criteria. This will help teachers to identify areas of learning that are secure and areas of development for future teaching.
