At Iver Village Junior School, we aim to continually refine our curriculum to ensure pupils receive the best possible support to develop their conceptual understanding, disciplinary skills and knowledge in all curriculum areas.
At the heart of this is continuous and effective formative assessment.

In addition, teachers use summative assessment to assess the impact of teaching. The documents below related to each curriculum area, supports teachers in conducting accurate assessments. The purpose of these documents is to outline the key knowledge, concepts and skills that pupils are taught within each subject. This is to help teachers to plan lessons and assess learning effectively. These documents identify ‘key assessment criteria’ highlighted from the national curriculum programmes of study for the expected standard (EXS).
The documents identify the content that pupils must cover during the academic year that they are in. Teachers carefully plan and sequence lessons and activities throughout the year to ensure that they are able to access the required learning. Pupils will be assessed at the expected standard at the end of the year if they meet all of the set criteria. Teachers will use the documents throughout the year to monitor pupils progress towards the expected standard and to plan accordingly to support pupils in meeting the standard.
Teachers use the criteria holistically, looking at pupils’ development over the year assess against the standards. Throughout the year, formative ongoing assessments are made by teachers during lessons, through independent tasks and retrieval activities and by subject leaders through book looks and pupil focus groups. Children’s books are a celebration and record of some of the learning that has taken place in lessons and we aim to support our pupils to articulate their learning confidently to both adults and peers.
