Computing and Languages at IVJS
Computing
Some of the jobs that our children will be doing as adults have not even been created yet! The skills and knowledge the children are learning in their computing lessons are essential for modern day life. The teaching of Computing uses a creative online space which can be accessed, saved and continued by pupils anywhere and anytime. It is an exciting platform, based around curriculum focused activities, creative tools, programs and games which support and inspire creative learning every day. From poems to newspapers, masks and 3D models, animations and textured paintings, the online platform supports our curriculum throughout the year. The design, content and sequence of the curriculum intends to build upon prior learning in KS1 with coding and online safety at the core. It is taught by our class teachers who are able to access online CPD sessions to enhance their practice.
We encourage the use of ICT across the curriculum. Pupils have access to Asus laptops and Apple iPads which are available to all classes. Each classroom has a teaching desktop computer, interactive whiteboard, access to AirServer and access to an iPad.

Computing Curriculum Overview
Modern Foreign Language
French is our chosen Modern Foreign Language, which is taught as part of the National Curriculum for pupils in KS2. IVJS values cultural differences and is passionate about teaching children to develop their interest in learning another language in an enjoyable and stimulating way. We encourage children’s confidence and creative skills by teaching them to foster a love of languages and cultures. The teaching of MFL assists children in their understanding of the wider world through the teaching of the language and its cultures. Children are given the opportunity to travel through the country and learn not only the language but also how the French live. Children who have not had the opportunity of travelling to another country are given the opportunity through its teaching to experience what life is like in another country. (See curriculum maps)
