Primary Science Quality Mark - Gilt Award
We are very pleased and proud to be able to inform you that our school has been awarded the Primary Science Quality Mark Silver award. This follows a year long process in developing our science provision, led by our science co-ordinators Mrs Bowden & Miss Bjorck.
Jane Turner, PSQM National Director said: “Gaining a Primary Science Quality Award is a significant achievement for a school. The profile and quality of science teaching and learning in each awarded school is very high. Children are engaging with great science both in and outside the classroom, developing positive attitudes towards science as well as secure science understanding and skills. Science subject leaders, their colleagues, head teachers, children, parents and governors should be very proud.”

Eco-Schools
Eco-Schools is an international award programme that guides schools on their sustainable journey, providing a framework to help embed these principles into the heart of school life. Both schools have now achieved Silver EcoSchool status. The Eco Warriors will continue promoting ways in which we can make our school and local environment more eco friendly. Our focus will be on limiting the amount of waste we produce and looking at ways we can reuse or recycle any other waste.
This has just been extended for a third time until April 2022.

ELSA - supporting emotional literacy
The ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) project was originally developed by Educational Psychologist, Sheila Burton. It was designed to build the capacity of schools to support the emotional needs of their pupils from within their own resources. It recognises that children learn better and are happier in school if their emotional needs are also addressed.
ELSA is an initiative developed and supported by educational psychologists who apply psychological knowledge of children’s social and emotional development to particular areas of need and to specific casework.

Philosophy 4 Children (P4C)
Philosophy for Children (P4C) is a powerful educational approach which has been found through research studies to have cognitive and social benefits for children and schools. It is more effective, and less expensive, than any comparable approach. Attainment and happiness are increased. It is centred on philosophical enquiry, where a trained teacher encourages children to think and reason as a group. It supports Personal, Social and Health Education and complements many government initiatives and education strategies.
SAPERE's 'Going for Gold' Programme of P4C provides training and support for primary schools.
It is a 3 year programme to embed P4C in our school. The programme's aim is to offer schools a planned and structured approach to training and support in order to implement and embed P4C in a more cost effective and sustainable way.
We have currently achieved the Bronze Award.

* pupils views are listened to and taken seriously
* an outward-looking community where children are encouraged to learn about and engage with the wider world. To read the full report click here.
