On Wednesday 21st March, our Eco Council were invited to join in with an air quality survey being carried out, for South Bucks District Council, along Iver High Street. The monitoring team from Ricardo Energy and Environment explained how the equipment worked and answered questions from our pupils. Once the data has been analysed, Cerys Williams (Senior Environmental Protection Officer) at South Bucks District Council will return to IVJS to explain the results to us. Our pupils were commended by Ricardo E&E on the depth of their questioning – well done everyone!
School council and the Eco group joined forces this week to take part in the RSPB National Bird Watch. Pupils worked in pairs during assembly time to go outside with clipboards and recording charts to record how many of different types of birds they could see. Some of the Years 5s & 6s even gave up their break time to continue the task. The data will be submitted to the RSPB to form part of their national bird count.
Today was Clean for the Queen day and our fantastic Eco Champions and brilliant School Councillors took time from their day to make a real effort to help spruce up our local area ready for the Queen’s 90th Birthday. Thank you to our wonderful Eco Schools Team and our School Council for their invaluable help today!
This week our amazing Eco-Council visited Grundon’s energy waste facility where they learnt how household rubbish, that cannot be recycled, is turned into electricity. They got the opportunity to design their own working wind turbine and learn more about renewable energy sources.
