Year 3 – have been looking at the relationship between addition and subtraction in Maths. They have found missing numbers using the inverse operation and bar models. In English, they have continued to write their letters to our local MP and have been editing their work ready to publish. In Science, they have been learning how water is transported through plants and have planned a fair test to investigate this. They have enjoyed their lunchtime discussions to introduce 'Oracy October', including which superpower they would like to have and why. Year 4 – have been writing instructions in English explaining how to make a robot out of recycled materials. In Maths, they have been busy rounding numbers to the nearest 1000, counting in 25s and learning all about negative numbers. In Science, they took part in 4 experiments over the space of one afternoon and explored how water changes state. They even tested what happens when you put salt on ice and saw how condensation forms. Year 4 have finished their Humanities for this half term by drawing bar and line graphs for the average rainfall and temperature in the Democratic Republic of Congo. They have also begun their Art topic, 'African Art' by exploring natural patterns and testing different mediums to draw them in. They had great fun using charcoal, ink, crayons and sketching pencils. Year 5 – have been busy again this week! In English they have completed, edited and published their narratives based on 'The Journey' class book. They have taken lots of care whilst editing their work to ensure they have up-levelled and corrected it. In Maths, they have been learning to exchange when adding and subtracting two 4-digit numbers. They have also used their knowledge to extend their learning further by explaining their reasoning. Year 5 have also practiced some sewing stitches ready to design their book marks. Year 6 – have been writing a formal letter in character, linked to their class book in English this week. They are enjoying reading the book as a class as well as the letter in English and have produced some good poems about the sea during Guided Reading. In Maths, the children are continuing to look at the four operations and have been focusing on subtraction this week, as well as understanding how they can use the inverse to help them check answers to problems. The children are enjoying Computing, where they are building on their coding skills and have planned a game to create using coding next week. They are continuing to find out more about evolution and inheritance in Science and have been learning about Charles Darwin's theory of evolution this week.
